I fished with Luc & his friend on Lake Memphremagog today for smallmouth bass. They wanted to learn how to fish deeper water, so we began with Carolina Rigs & Spider Jigs on Football heads in the 12 to 14 foot zones adjacent to the spawning areas. The fishing was slow, but the fish were a better average size with 3.5 pounds being the norm. The winds were from the S/SW at 15 to 20 knots at the beginning of the day and varied with the rain and storm systems all day long. Water temps were around 65 with air being in the low 70s. After 4 or 5 hours of this, I suggested that if they wanted more action, we should begin to fish top-water. It wasn’t long before they were both landing fish! For the rest of the day, there were fish being caught off & on. Probably 25 bass were landed with many more being lost. All things considered, an above average day for the time spent fishing the right zones!!!
