Bass on The Fly

June 26th 2019

Neville was back again this year for another three day fishing trip. Being from the UK, he really wanted to catch bass and on the fly! I aimed to make it happen!

Every spot we stopped on held fish and despite catching a number of them, most were rather on the small side. He did however manage to get several good ones, making for a great day!

A Reel-Wet One

June 25th 2019

Nick & Richard sure picked a winner today! It literally poured rain, for the entire day. Fortunately we were able to make the morning run in only a big wind but it began shortly after we were set up.

Despite the miserable conditions, they both managed to get into plenty of fish. Some great walleye were also landed but the best one was lost at the boat. Somehow while Rick was fighting the fish it managed to surge and right into the kicker she went. It also took another line with it as well as a couple of lures. Not the best way to end the day but crap happens!

First Canadian Walleye

June 24th 2019

With festivities scheduled for the park ramp that I generally use, I was forced to launch elsewhere today! Jeff & his family met me outside the park and I shuttled them to where we would have to put in. Tina and their daughter Lindsey were excited to finally fish in Canada!

Despite a rather slow start due to the below average water temps, they still managed to get into several fish before I relocated to a different section of the lake. Without a doubt, the afternoon bite was better than the morning as the water finally had a chance to warm up. The fish obviously felt it too as better ones were landed in the afternoon sun.

Everyone took their turn reeling in pike, walleye and even a lost smallie. Lindsey however caught the better walleye & pike and ended her day with top honours. She also caught more fish than everyone else. Go figure!

From Brown to Green

June 23rd 2019 (afternoon)

Todd & his father were my afternoon clients and although I did have to drive almost an hour, it was well worth the time. They learned a new technique and landed a bunch of bass. Soft plastics and largemouth in the grass! Even a couple of smallies and a northern cooperated as well as the afternoon flew by.

Despite not having been on this lake yet this season, I was happy to see the plan come together. Both Todd and Ed managed to get into some nice fish and left with a better understanding on how to catch those green bass! Hopefully they will be able to put this to good use the next time they get out to fish!

Dirty Water Smallies

June 23rd 2019 (morning)

Jon & Keith were back again this morning for a half day of fishing. They had to fly out and needed to be at the dock by 11:00. We made the best of the time by switching lakes and getting into more fish. Although not huge, they still managed to land several good ones before we were done.

The three days were spent chasing smallies and many adjustments were made in order to get bit. With the water temps still cool in most areas, the fish really don’t want to move too far. Precise casts and slower presentations were why they were able to boat the fish they did. Hopefully the water will warm up enough for the fish to start chasing again!
