Only big fish

June 7th 2019

Leslie & Leslie senior joined me this morning for a tough yet productive 4 hours of fishing. The fish definitely weren’t on fire as I had to work for each & every hit we had! With the water temps barely 56 degrees in most areas, it made for tough fishing.

Despite having to struggle for most of the morning, they did manage to land some really quality walleye & northerns. In fact they ended the morning with a triple header.

In the end there were plenty of quality fish landed and some of them went home with them for a great dinner!

Loads of Eyes

June 6th 2019

Cory & Mike joined me on the water today, hoping for some walleye. They definitely got what they requested! We began with a north wind and terrible bites and found most of the fish, just on. Reels weren’t firing much, just riders on the lures. Plenty of them were keepers as well as many more unders.

Some pike and a few incidental smallmouth also managed to find their way into the boat, only to be quickly released.

I had to fish many places today to get the fish but in the end it was all worth it. All but the giant hatch of caddis flies! Also known as shad flies! They were just relentless and we were all happy to finally be rid of them, when we were done!

Loving The Weather

June 5th 2019

Tim & his son Clay were with me today on what was supposed to be wet one. Fortunately the weather forecasters were wrong, once again!

Despite a difficult start due to inactive fish from the 54 degree water temps, we rallied and got into them pretty good afterwards. They both managed to land their first walleye and northern pike and Clay caught his first smallie and perch as well. In fact, his first walleye was a really good one at 25 inches!

The afternoon bite was definitely better than the morning, with all the sunshine warming up the water. The walleye were officially on fire! We had doubles and even one triple header to give them a great finish. They also both left with a freshwater slam! What an absolutely great day of fishing after anticipating an all-day rain. Way to go Mr. Meteorologist, AKA, Mr. Weatherman!!

Grinding it Out

May 31st 2019

I knew it was going to be a tough morning bite when we spent the first hour and only came up with 5 fish! Francisco, Ernesto & Michael managed 2 keeper walleye & 3 incidental smallies before I pulled the plug on 54 degree water!

Eventually we found areas that were holding more fish and got into them pretty good when the sun finally came out. A combination of pike and walleye were landed from various depths of water, indicating that they were all over. They just weren’t very aggressive in 54 degree water!

Michael managed to bring in a few nice eyes, with one of them being his personal best! With the afternoon bite being better than the morning, it’s no surprise that these fish don’t like the weather either! We really need some temperature and sunshine to get into the numbers we should be having. Hopefully June will turn it all around!

Bang On Weather-Man

May 29th 2019

Phil & two of his sons, Ari & Zev experienced a great day for numbers today! Plenty of pike and walleye were landed along with a few unexpected smallies.

Mother Nature was up to her old tricks as the forecast was for sunshine and overcast was seen all day. Fortunately the winds were very light, helping with the troll. Zev landed his first walleye ever and it was a real good one too, while Ari landed his first walleye of the season.

We had to cover plenty of water with the water temps so cold but eventually found 54 degrees and hammered the pike pretty good. I can’t wait for some warmth & sunshine to finally get these fish active again!
