Quebec Fishing Reports
Cold Water BiteJune 11, 2023
The last couple of days saw high numbers of pike and walleye landed without any reports. Today however, Dominic & his son Justin were with me for a bit of a struggle. It started out slow in 58-degree water temps with only a few fish and I had to move around plenty to find the active ones. Although it was a grind at times, we were able to pick at them pretty good. Justin was loading the livewell with keeper walleye while his father seemed to only be able to catch the larger ones. One area produced best in the afternoon and it was here that most of the damage was done. Overall, it was a great day once again and they even took fresh fish home with them for dinner tonight!
A Great PresentJune 3, 2023
Tylor treated his father Mark to a day on the water for a birthday/Father’s Day/ Christmas gift and what a day they had! It took less than 3 minutes to hook up, but that was a decoy fish! We spent a bit longer searching for the second one. I covered plenty of water, both deep & shallow and managed to scratch at them before finally hitting an area that had more active fish. Both walleye & northerns came in and they even had a few double headers too! Water temps were as low as 61 degrees but the fish were biting!
Sometime after noon I decided to change locations as there was literally zero wind and those damn dog pecker knats were just insane. It felt good to get some air circulating! We went to another spot further away after hammering on the fish and I wondered if it was the right move. Water temps reached as high as 75 degrees here and I covered plenty of water looking for bites. Although there weren’t as many fish landed, they still managed to get several more pike and a few walleye for their efforts. It got so hot that I even had to raise the roof for the first time this season! At least we were somewhat comfortable in the shade, while trolling this afternoon!
With thunder storms brewing, we decided to call it quits around 2:30, when we began to hear thunder. I quickly packed everything up and headed back to the ramp to take out. Despite the slightly shorter than usual time out, there were still loads of fish landed. Overall, it was a great day on the water and Mark really enjoyed his gift. Tylor did as well as he tagged along for the day and benefitted from the tremendous present to his dad. The gift that keeps on giving!
Temps On The RiseJune 1, 2023
Ben joined me this morning for a half day of fishing, with a couple of his friends. Although the bite was tough at first, we did manage a bunch of fish. Most were clones so very few pics were taken! With water temps climbing, it will only get better!
Cold Water Pike DayMay 27, 2023
Gilles and his father Auguste, joined me today for a great pike outing! Although they had only booked the morning, we were able to get into some high numbers in the short time were out. Auguste was visiting from France and couldn’t believe how good the fishing was! For me it was a little below average due to the cold-water temps of 56 degrees. They said they caught more fish in one day than they would have been able to, in several years back home! I guess we’re spoiled here in Canada eh!
A Relaxing Day OutNovember 11, 2022
A last minute cancellation saw me heading out for a few hours with Christiane. We took our time getting on the water and fished for walleye at the start. A couple of hours later I decided to switch up to smallies and left the area with several good fish in the livewell.
With limited time remaining in the day we made the best of it by targeting only the areas that held big fish. Right on cue, they cooperated and Christiane did battle with several fall footballs. Too bad the biggest ones came off before the net!
This may have been the last day of the open water season with the crappy weather arriving by the weekend. I will hold out a bit longer hoping for a change, but might be storing the boat at any time. It’s this time of year that I wish I had a garage to be able to pick & choose the nice days when they arrive!
