I fished with Andre & his son, Dane on Lake St-Francis today. The conditions were suppose to be terrible, according to the weatherman, but this time he was wrong for the better. We had a slight wind from the S/SW at less than 10 knots that only got up to about 15 at the worst, during the day. The storms that they had predicted never really happened either. The air temps got into the 80s & the water temps were in the mid 70s. Both largemouth & smallmouth bass were caught on a variety of lures in a variety of locations. Right down to the last cast of the day, Dane caught a nice largemouth of 4 pounds. Talk about a Hail Mary!! Close to a dozen fish were caught and plenty of others lost as well.

I fished with Nathan & his two sons, Devon & Shane today on Lake Champlain. We had winds of 20 to 30 knots from the S/W with gusts up to 40. Finding a sheltered area to fish was a must in these conditions! Air temps were in the 80s and the water temps were in the upper 60s and in some places the lower 70s. Yesterdays N/E winds really cooled the shallower water! It wasnt long before we found some warmer water & some largemouth willing to bite. Soft plastic lures & Scum Frogs thrown over vegetation managed to persuade some of the fish to actually feed. By the end of the day we had really gotten into an area that seemed to be holding quite a few quality sized largemouth up to & over 4 pounds. Too bad we had to leave! Probably close to 15 or so fish fell victim to the offerings on this BREEZY day!!!

Today was an educational day as Robert wanted to learn some new techniques to catch deep smallmouth bass. Unfortunately, the winds were from the N/E at 20 knots and the current flows from the S/W. Pesentation was going to be difficult with these conditions, but I would make it work. The air temps were a rather cool 65 degrees in the morning but warmed into the 80s by afternoon. The water temps dropped down into the upper 60s due to the cooler winds from the north and so did some of the fish as we were soon to find out. A mix of Crankbaits, Spinnerbaits, Senkos & Jigs were used to entice the inactive smallies today. Depths of over 20 feet were where the bulk of the larger fish came from on this day. Smallies close to 5 pounds were the result of our efforts as we caught them deep & slow! Probably only a dozen or so fish were taken, but all quality in size. Overall, a good learning experience for Robert today!!!

What do most people do on their days off? Go to work of course! Thats exactly what I did today! I went to Lake Champlain & fished with my wife Christiane on this beautiful, sunny day. The winds were from the south at about 10 to 15 knots and the air temps were in the upper 70s. The water temps were also in the mid 70s. We mixed it up a bit today with some shallow largemouth in the early part of the day & some smallmouth action in the later afternoon. All in all, about 15 to 20 bass were caught up to 4 pounds on various soft plastic baits. Not a bad way to spend a day off!!

I fished with Nathan on Lake St-Francis today. The wind began light, but by mid day became just nasty. The air temps were barely 70 and the water temps were even lower. Morning sunshine soon gave way to plenty of clouds for the rest of the day. The waves built up to 3 footers by the afternoon making the soft plastic baits impossible to detect a strike. We had to go to faster moving baits like Spinner Baits to get reaction strikes out of the negative fish until the afternoon major arrived. Short striking fish were all we encountered in the morning and it was a treat to finally have some action in the afternoon. About a dozen smallmouth were caught up to almost five pounds by the time it was all over. Tough Bite!!!!
