It took until today for the water to finally reach 70 degrees this season! I hoped that the fish would be in a better mood, but with flat calm for the 4th day in a row, along with intense heat and humidity, I didn’t expect any change. I was right!

Alex & Ryan were in the boat today, hoping for a mix of fish and to learn different techniques to catch them. We began with a troll, where we could and managed to land a couple of pike and one walleye. Alex did however lose something quite a bit bigger that just came unpinned during the fight. I eventually pulled the plug on the troll as it was getting next to impossible to keep the lines clean from all the floating weeds! We were going casting for bass next!

After a long run, I set up on a big rocky flat and began teaching them how to cast. It didn’t take long before both of them were making great casts and eventually hooking up on fish. Alex had several bass on and managed to land a few of them. Ryan managed one good walleye and missed a few other fish as well before we relocated once again.

Clouds had rolled in and it looked like it might rain, but it was still flat calm. I switched locations and techniques over to dropshotting and instructed them on what to do. On their first drop over deeper water, they were doubled up. Quick learners!

We finished off the day with dropshotting and both of them managed several other fish on their lines with some of them coming to net. In the end, they were able to take some good eating fish back with them. Along with the fish was the knowledge of some new ways to catch them. This would hopefully prove to be useful the next time they fished from shore on their own. Up until now, worms were used to catch only catfish! I’m sure this will all change the next time they wet a line! Great day on the water today!
