I fished with my wife, Christiane today on our 20th anniversary weekend fishing trip. Well, the weather held out, contrary to the forecast and that was a blessing. The air temps were in the upper 50’s and the water was as high as 52 degrees. The wind was still from the N/NE at 10 to 20 MPH by the days end, but that didn’t change the fishing. Our starting spot produced close to 50 fish and it continued at the same rate for the rest of the day as well. By the time it was all over there were more than 100 smallmouth bass up to 4.5 pounds caught & released. Both the jerk-baits and the jigs worked equally as well. Most of the fish were in the 20 to 30 foot range. The cold fronts seemed to send them deeper! Overall, the best day of the year!!

I fished with Tim again today, but on another lake. We knew that we wouldn’t be catching a lot of bass, but they would be huge. The air temps went to almost 60 degrees and the water temps were about 48 degrees. We had light winds from the N/NE with sun & clouds. Only about 12 bass were caught but most were in the 5-pound class. The largest weighed in at 6 pounds 8 ounces on a scale. There were also fish of 5.14, 5.11, 5.7, 5.4, and 5.3, respectively. We even managed to get a couple of bonus fish. One lake trout of 4.5 pounds and a beautiful brown of 7 pounds. All in all, a great fishing day for quality fish!!

After a few days of rest, I was back on the water with Tim today. We fished Lake Memphremagog for smallmouth and covered a lot of water doing so. The day started out with lots of sunshine and no wind. Air temps were in the low 50’s and the surface water temps were 53 degrees in the shallow water. We caught smaller fish there but found better size fish in open water on the deeper shoals. The jerk-bait bite was tough and the fish were not very aggressive. Most of the fish today came from the jigs in 20 to 30 feet of water. The pressure bottomed out and the bite really slowed down when the clouds and rain came in. Fortunately, we never really got any of the heavy rains that were all around us. Overall it was a tough day on the water, but we still managed to get into about 40 fish up to 4 pounds.

Once again Jim & Marie joined me today, but this time we tried for lake trout on another lake nearby. The conditions were absolutely horrible! It was a cold 42 degrees and light drizzle all day long. The wind was from the S/SW at 5 to 10 MPH, but it felt more like a colder north wind. The water temperature just seems to be getting colder, not warmer with these conditions. The nights are dipping into the 30’s every night! Unfortunately, we scored a zero on the trout, but not for lack of trying. We had 5 trout on during the day & lost all of them! There was however a bonus smallmouth bass that went over 6 pounds landed and that was a blessing. A really tough day all in all! I hope the weather changes real soon!

I fished with Jim & Marie today on Lake Memphremagog for smallmouth bass. The weather was quite cold at 46 degrees and the water had dropped 3 degrees since yesterday afternoon. The only thing in our favor was that there was little to no wind. We fished several locations and caught fish in every area. The best places were the areas that led to deeper water because of the colder temperatures. At he end of the day, we probably had caught close to 50 fish up to 4 pounds. Most fish were caught on jerk-baits today. Tough conditions, but a good day all in all!!
