Quebec Fishing Reports
Tournament DayJuly 18, 2004
I fished a Bass Quebec tournament with Paul today on the Ottawa River. Cool morning air gave way to scortching heat by afternoon with winds from the east at 10 to 15 mph. Water temps were in the mid 70s in the bays and slightly cooler on the main river. It was another tough day of fishing with several good smallmouth being lost early in the morning, by both of us. The largemouth bite was also rather slow, but big bites are all you’re looking for in a tournament anyhow. Paul managed to Grubb up a couple of beauties over 5 pounds each by flipping to heavy cover. By the end of the day at weigh in, we finished a respectable 6th with just under 17 pounds for the best five fish. Overall, a pretty good day!
Tough BiteJuly 17, 2004
I fished with Harry on Riviere des Prairie today. The water was high & muddier than usual. I knew we would have a tough time when we saw a dock floating in the river with a boat still tied to it. The water temp was near 74 degrees and the air temp was cool but rose to the 80s by mid day. We drifted along current breaks and adjacent flats with spider jigs & tubes with some success. Close to 15 bass were taken with the largest being about 3.5 pounds. No concentration was found, just one here, one there. We fished until about 4:30 PM when an electrical storm had us running for the trailer. Within minutes after we were off the water, the skies let loose with a torential down pour. Close call indeed!
Largemouth on the FlyJune 22, 2004
I fished with Scott all day today on a local lake nearby. We started out trying for smallmouth bass, but had only a few takers. The air temps were in the 60s in the morning with light drizzle most of the day. Water temps were in the low to mid 60s. Very dark skies! Scott wanted to catch some fish on a fly rod and that he did! Nearing the end of the day, we hit into sone largemouth on the outside edges of weeds in about 5 to 10 feet of water and he began hooking up. Lots of small fish, but some really nice fish up to & over 4 pounds. About 20 or so fish were caught on the fly today! Tough fishing, but a great day overall!!!
Take A Kid FishingJune 21, 2004
I fished with Nathan & two of his children (Corey & Devin) for a half day, locally. The air temps were in the 80s and the water temps were in the mid 70s. We had strong winds from the west at 15 to 25 mph gusting to 37. A tough day with lots of small fish being caught. Devin caught the biggest bass of his life! A 3.5 pound, spawned out female that should have gone closer to 4.5 pounds. This fish was almost 20 inches in length! Close to 25 bass were caught today with that fish being the largest of all. An overall decent day on the water!

What a group today! I fished with 5 people and an additional boat. Anthony & Minya brought three other buddies out for an excellent day on the water. One by one, they caught Smallmouth averaging better than 4 pounds & quite a few were over 5. We fished them in 8 to 12 feet of water and caught them on salty tubes all day long. The air temps were in the low 80s and the water temps were near 65 degrees. Light winds all day with sun in the morning & cloud cover by afternoon. More than 25 bass were caught with nothing under 4 pounds. That’s what I call an excellent day!!!
