I had the pleasure of fishing with Terry & Coeta, a couple from Oklahoma today on Lake Champlain. They were about to experience some of the finest smallmouth fishing! Mother nature tried several times to send us off the water with strong winds from the south at 15 to 20 knots in the morning. The air was very hot & humid & around 65 but felt much warmer! The water temp was around 75 degrees. The Deep Water action was great! Plenty of quality smallmouth up to almost 5 pounds fell victim to a variety of jigs fished in their preferred zones. Sometime around 1:00 in the afternoon all went calm. The storm system that had dumped a brief, heavy rain on us in the morning soon turned 180 degrees and began howling out of the north. Along with it came a cold wind & more heavy rain that really made us concentrate on the deep fishing. By days end, around 25 quality bass were taken in the depths of Lake Champlain. Overall, a great day!!!

I had the pleasure of fishing with 5 guests today and required the aid of another boat to do this. On my boat there was Denis, Josee & Chris. Two of them had no experience fishing before, but were soon into big fish without any problem. With a hot & humid day in the forcast & little to no wind, we decided to fish Lake St-Francis for smallmouth bass. That turned out to be a great choice with over 25 bass caught up to & over 6 pounds in our boat. A slower presentation was needed to entice the fish into biting our offerings today, once again. The air temp was in the upper 80s and the water temp was around 73 degrees in most places. Overall, an excellent day!!!

On the second boat, with Brian guiding Max & Julie, they also had an amazing day. They caught almost 20 bass with top honors going to Julie. She caught several over four and a couple close to 5 pounds. A variety of lures were used by them to entice many a follower and several takers. If they could have caught only half of the fish that they saw, they would have caught over 50 bass all together. Another excellent day on the water!!

I fished with Bill & Patty today, again on Lake Memphremagog. The morning saw a light drizzle and wind from the south at under 5 mph. The air was humid & around 65 degrees. The water temp was at 74 degrees on the open lake and relatively clear in most places. The topwater bite was really slow at the start of the day and we soon changed to Berkley Power Jerk-Shads to entice the over 50 bass caught. Open, deep water was where we managed to take the bigger smallmouth up to 5 pounds. A slow presentation was required to entice them into hitting the soft baits. All day they caught fish with no particular period of time being better than another. Never having caught Bass before, they will take back to Alberta an incredible memory of just how great the Bronzeback can actually fight!

I fished with Steve today on Lake Memphremagog for a half day. The weather was humid & foggy in the morning with the temp around 70 degrees. The water was about 71 and crystal clear! There was a light, variable breeze that eventually lifted the haze & fog and warmed the air temp into the upper 80s by afternoon. The topwater bite was on at the start of the day, but soon disappeared and had us changing the presentations to Jerk-Shads & Senkos to continue the action. Smallmouth & Largemouth were both being caught in various areas. Steve was here for the week so I gave him the condensed tour allowing him to understand many areas & many different techniques. All in all, a pretty productive half day with about 20 or so bass caught up to over three pounds!!
